Keluar dari zona nyaman sebagai seorang pekerja kantoran pastinya membutuhkan sedikit waktu bagi saya untuk beradaptasi mengenal dunia luar. Setelah resign dari perusahaan tempat saya bekerja saya bertekad untuk mendalami keahlian saya dibidang desain grafis. Meski saat ini saya bergelar “pengangguran”, namun keadaan ini membuat saya merasa bebas karena tidak lagi terikat waktu bekerja.
Hobi menggambar sejak kecil mengenalkan saya kepada bakat saya yang sesungguhnya. Dulu sewaktu kecil bisa dibilang kalau sudah memegang alat gambar, saya lupa akan segalanya karena disibukkan dengan dunia menggambar. Saya merasa bahwa kegemaran menggambar telah menuntun saya dalam menemukan jati diri sebagai seorang desainer grafis. Kecintaan saya terhadap karya desain akhirnya memotivasi saya untuk menjadi seorang desainer grafis professional.

Sejak saat itulah saya terus berlatih untuk mendalami dunia desain, mengikuti berbagai acara seminar desain, bergabung dengan komunitas desain dan berbagi pengalaman dengan para desainer senior. Saya meyakini bahwa jika saya mampu mengusai desain saya akan tetap bisa berpenghasilan meski saya tidak lagi bekerja diperkantoran. Desain memang selalu ada kaitannya dengan banyak hal yang membutuhkan desain itu sendiri. Dari desain saya juga mengenal dunia blogger, website, mockup, layout, percetakan, promosi, photographer, hingga video editing. Semua serasa seru untuk dipelajari satu persatu.
Mempelajari ilmu desain pastinya tidak akan sia-sia, alasannya karena banyak peluang usaha yang bisa kita bangun hanya bermodalkan keahlian desain. Peluang usaha tersebut bisa jadi ladang bisnis kita untuk masa depan contohnya usaha digital printing, konsultan dan jasa desain interior maupun eksterior, menjadi influenzer, Jasa desain, layout website, bahkan guru seni.

Rasanya mengenal dunia desain tak ubahnya mengenal jati diri saya yang sesungguhnya. Desain dan jiwa ini terlalu sulit jika harus dipisahkan, karena saya sangat mencintai dunia desain. Itulah yang membuat pekerjaan apapun yang berhubungan dengan desain menjadi sangat menyenangkan. Ibarat kita mengerjakan hobi kita, namun tetap bisa menghasilkan keuntungan dari hobi tersebut.

Sejak melepaskan pekerjaan yang mengharuskan saya datang ke kantor sebelum matahari terbit dan pulang setelah matahari terbenam. Akhirnya saya menemukan pekerjaan yang cocok untuk diri saya, saya bisa menikmati sinar mentari kapanpun saya mau, tidak perlu lagi datang ke kantor karena pekerjaan bisa dilakukan dimana saja dan pastinya menikmati pekerjaan seindah ngopi dipagi hari ditemani singkong rebus.
Namun, kegembiraan itu tak selamanya bahagia tatkala saya telah menyetujui agenda bertemu klien di pagi hari. Sudah bisa dibayangkan saya akan bermacet ria dijalanan, mendengarkan klakson pengendara yang tak sabaran, hingga polusi knalpot yang berhamburan. Meskipun begitu, pekerjaan tetaplah tanggung jawab yang harus saya lakukan demi sebuah reputasi dan kredibilitas.
Tekad menjadi seorang desainer professional terkadang juga membuat saya harus menelan pil pahit yang bernama “deadline”. Jadi, meskipun saya menyukai pekerjaan desain tapi hal yang paling saya khawatirkan yaitu dikejar-kejar deadline. Pastinya mau tidak mau saya harus lembur hingga larut malam untuk menyelesaikan desain tersebut.

Fakta lainnya, demi menjadi seorang desiner professional, hampir 80% waktu dalam sehari, saya habiskan di depan laptop ataupun gawai lainnya seperti ipad maupun smartphone. Tak jarang mata sering terasa sepet dan perih jika harus berlama-lama menatap layar laptop. Kalau mata sudah mulai sepet, perih, dan pegel, terpaksa saya harus rehat sejenak untuk memulihkan dan menyegarkan kondisi mata.
Gejala mata kering memang kerap saya rasakan. Hal tersebut terjadi lantaran saya terlalu lama menatap layer laptop, terlebih lagi saya mengerjakan desain di dalam ruangan ber-AC, lengkap sudah factor yang berpotensi membuat mata ini mudah perih, sepet dan pegal. Kalau mata kering melanda, tentunya pekerjaan desain pun menjadi terhambat.

Mata Kering Menghambat Aktivitas Desain

Pernah suatu ketika saya mendapatkan tawaran menjadi tim media seorang tokoh nasional. Sebut saja namanya pak A. Tugas yang ditawarkan saat itu yaitu membranding melalui desain yang menarik lalu mempublish ke sebuah platform social media milik beliau. Dengan alasan untuk menambah pengalaman, saya memutuskan untuk menandatangani perjanjian kerja tersebut. Mulai hari itu juga saya stand by dengan keahlian desain yang saya miliki untuk mempersiapkan aneka desain yang dibutuhkan.
Setiap harinya saya harus berkelana mengikuti segala bentuk agenda pak A untuk merekam jejak apa saja yang bisa saya tuangkan ke dalam sebuah desain. Setiap patah katanya yang mengandung motivasi, ajakan, atau kata bijak menjadi sorotan penting bagi saya untuk kemudian saya olah menjadi narasi di dalam sebuah konten desain.
Jadwal ke luar kota pun semakin padat memenuhi agenda saya, setiap minggunya tak pernah saya lewatkan mendampingi pak A untuk melangsungkan acaranya. Ternyata, pekerjaan desain pun bisa membawa saya jalan-jalan gratis keliling Indonesia seperti Makasar, Bandung, Semarang, Surabaya dan kota lainnya.

Agendanya pun bermacam-macam mulai dari urusan bisnis hingga acara kamus untuk memberikan seminar kepada mahasiswa yang membutuhkan asupan nutrisi semangat nasionalis. Disisi lain saya belajar banyak hal dari pak A karena pengalamannya yang begitu hebat yang patut diacungi jempol.
Perlengkapan seperti kamera, laptop, tab dan smartphone tentu menjadi amunisi wajib yang harus saya bawa kapan pun dan dimana pun saya ikut melangkah. Terlebih lagi perlengkapan materi design seperti design jadwal acara, design materi presentasi dan design banner yang selalu dibutuhkan panitia penyelenggara sebelum acara dipublikasikan.
Kondisi tubuh yang Lelah, ditambah materi design yang harus diupdate setiap harinya mengharuskan saya mendesain hingga larut malam. Belum lagi ketika mata tiba-tiba mulai terasa sepet, perih dan pegal. Resikonya, tentu berdampak pada design yang saya buat.
Pernah suatu ketika materi design presentasi yang saya buat mendapatkan kritik pedas dari pak A. Setelah saya cek design materi presentasi, saya merasa tak menemukan kesalahan pada materi tersebut. Ternyata kesalahan fatal tersebut terletak pada kata yang seharusnya saya tulis “Klasifikasi” menjadi “Klarifikasi” tentu perbedaanya sangat jauh dan berbeda makna.
Akibat kesalahan tersebut, saya bertanggung jawab untuk segera mungkin menarik materi presentasi yang terkirim sebelum disebarluaskan kepada mahasisawa yang hadir pada acara seminar tersebut. Kejadian ini tentunya tidak terlepas dari beberpa faktor yang saya alami ketika kondisi mata terasa sepet, pegal dan perih saat proses mendesain. Walaupun kesalahan hanya terletak pada satu huruf saja, namun bisa sangat fatal ketika kalimat tersebut terlanjur dikonsumsi oleh public.
